Also popular with the name, the Mother Church of the Archdiocese of Delhi, the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart is one of the oldest church buildings in New Delhi, designed by Henry Alexander Medd. It’s a Roman Catholic cathedral which belongs to the Latin rite. Together with St. Columba's School and the Convent of Jesus and Mary school, it occupies a total area of 14 acres near the south end of Bhai Vir Singh Marg Road in Connaught Place. The church was established by Father Luke, a member of the Franciscan first order, founded by St. Francis of Assisi. In 2011, the Hindustan times named the cathedral as one of the icons of the city of Delhi.

One must not miss the two most important celebrations at the church which occur at the time of Easter and Christmas. You must visit the church during Christmas week to enjoy the tune of jingles and well-decorated trees in the vicinity of the church. The highlights of the Christmas celebration are the vigil services and the feast of the holy family of Nazareth.

One may visit the church between 9 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. or between 4:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. On Saturdays the church remains open from 9 am to 12:30 pm. Make sure not to disappoint yourself by visiting at odd hours.

There are many options to reach to the holy place as it is located at the heart of the capital. One can opt for local bus services or metro services. Nearest Metro station is Rajiv Chowk Metro station, which lies on both Yellow line and Blue line. From the metro station it’s walk able distance or in case need any assistance then one can hire an auto-rickshaw for about Rs. 30-50.
